Avaya

The Company

Spun off from Lucent Technologies in October 2000, Avaya develops technology for Internet Protocol (IP) telephony, wireless data communication, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and speech recognition. Avaya employs 20,000 people and has approximately 2,500 authorized or certified partners worldwide.

The Challenge

With a large, decentralized partner community, online courses are a key component of Avaya’s training program. The online sessions suffered from two critical issues:

  • Avaya’s online training network often suffered from traffic overloads. The excess traffic caused the event coordinator to lose control of the slides, ruining the event for partners outside the network.
  • Viewers had to download a slide set, and also dial a specific number for the accompanying audio. The need for two sources of data created a barrier to viewing.

the solution: SNP's Production services

SNP implemented a backup machine outside the Avaya network, but with administrative privileges to the training’s online component. A special conference bridge allowed SNP to stay in touch with the training team throughout the training event. SNP ’s engineers recorded the event and synchronized the slides with the audio from the teleconference bridge. After the event, SNP hosted a complete archive, allowing on-demand viewing from Avaya’s training audience.

customer benefits

  • Because of the off-site backup system, the training team has the peace of mind that events will run smoothly for partners even in the event of a complete on-site network outage.
  • The reliable, “just like live” archive means more downloads and views, which make for a more effective and united partner community.
