Web 2.0 is the great, hyped solution to many business issues, but sometimes connectivity can go too far. Take a look at MeetMoi.com, which just received $1.5 million in financing from Acadia Woods Partners (click here for the story).
This is a combination of speed dating, online dating, and what random stranger happens to be in my proximity and be, ahem, “looking for a meeting.” You sign up, put in your cell phone, a two-sentence description of yourself (for those deep, soul-searching explanations of who you are), then put in your current zip code and cross streets. If the system finds someone in your specified locale (usually within 10 miles of your zip, you wouldn’t want to have to work at this stuff, of course), you can send them a text message — for 99 cents, of course. That person can text you back, and you’re off to the races. The zip code feature makes it ideal for those traveling daters on-the-go.
Is there a business application for this? Well, that depends on what your business is, I suppose. This is pitched as a legit dating device, although clearly it’s biggest use will be for non-legit reasons. But hey, even the world’s oldest profession needs Web 2.0 snazziness, right?
