What Do You Want To Know?

Question MarkReally, what do you want to know? Like any innovation, we need to re-think previous assumptions again and again until we get it right. I had a good conversation with a group of “millennials” yesterday. These are people born between 1978 and 2002, or so. We talked about social media, specifically video. It got me thinking. Blog, podcast and video content needs to truly address an audience need. Or better, must provide essential information in order to make it worthwhile for an audience to read, listen or watch. I know this seems obvious. Particularly to a company like ours which is all about addressing the needs of the audience. But even we forget it at times. Note our blog: we (me) enjoy talking about what we want to talk about, sometimes forgetting our audience.

This series of blogs, MoreThanTalk, was launched a few months ago. And populating the blogs was the first goal. We’ve done a pretty good job with that. Now we have to re-think the content to force ourselves to create messages that are truly serving the needs of our audience: corporate communicators, particularly those responsible for executive communications. Not easy to do.

So, back to my original question: What do you want to know? Our team works with executives at Google, Cisco, Sun, Oracle, Network Appliance, and many others. We’re all about truth and candor, and we constantly push the envelope with our customers to make them always think of their audience first. On any given day, you will find SNPers inside a number of companies in Silicon Valley, New York City, Seattle and even India. Despite the fact that writing a blog is fun and somewhat cathartic, in the end it’s a big waste of time if it’s not serving the audience – you. So, let us know what you want us to write and talk about. And we’ll do it. By the way, our first Millennial Roundtable will be posted soon. Look for it in the SNP Unplugged blog.
