Live to work, work to live
By Renn Vara
Since writing my 24/7 confessional blog some weeks ago, I’ve been hit with the retort; “Do you live to work or work to live?” The presumption is I’m not focused on the lifelong search for the Holy Grail of balancing work and life. So let me take another shot. This time let me be totally clear.
Work is life. There should be no balance needed. I get it that that some of you don’t get it. So let me help you end your hapless search for the Holy Grail of balance and instead focus on finding work that becomes your life.
Truth:
- The happiest people find work they love and do it every day.
- These same people exercise, read, vacation, enjoy their friends, play music, etc. to help them be better at what they do; work.
- And if these folks are doing work that has nothing to do with what they love, they credit their work with allowing them the time to do that which they really love.
Some of the most interesting people I’ve ever known have embraced their working lives. On the other side, those who found a way to not work are boring as hell. So embrace your work, make it your life, and stop fighting it.
And don’t we know by now that there is no Holy Grail? A side point.
